Her companion is Rudger (Kokoro Terada), an imaginary friend sworn to protect her. They spend much of their time in wild expeditions across Ghibli-esque landscapes in which you can get swallowed by a giant jellyfish and end up in a field of wildflowers. At first, their journeys are an escape from the sorrow in Amanda’s home.
